Will I be able to provide for my family in the coming year? Will my business continue to thrive in the struggling economy? Is it time to shut off the HD package on the DirecTV account, and the unlimited text messaging on the iPhone? I don’t know the answers to these questions.

Yeah… there’s question, and there’s worry. But here’s the reality of it all… we aren’t really in control of what happens.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Musician Steven Curtis Chapman’s daughter killed in accident

“I was trying to give my little girls a bath and rushing and hurrying through it,” Chapman told The Press in an interview last fall. “And I got convicted over how much I rush through moments trying to get to the next one, and God telling me to stop and take the moments as he gives then, and see what he’s trying to teach me.”

Just bought the Josh Wilson CD on iTunes. So far I love it. He has the same kind of pop-rock sound as Dave Barnes, and the same great songwriting, plus great musicianship too. Josh plays every instrument on the songs “3 Minute Song” and “Savior Please” except for drums. He fiddles with acoustic, baritone and electric guitars as well as banjo, mandolin, piano, and keys (which provide the orchestral sounds present on the album). While guitar and piano are his primary instruments, Josh also enjoys the banjitar, which is a banjo with guitar styling, “It’s a neat instrument and it’s kind of a cheat on the banjo.” Sweet!

I’ve been enjoying “3 Minute Song” which compares singing about God’s greatness to “Trying To Fit The Ocean In A Cup” and the rest of the CD doesn’t disappoint. Now I’m trying to restrain from tracking down his two independent projects—a full-length album, Dragonfly (2004), and an EP, Shake the Shadow (2006).

I tried to write a song

Norman became a Christian at the age of five and was raised in a black Pentecostal church. In 1956 he heard Elvis Presley’s music and would later say that he felt Elvis had stolen rock’n'roll from the church and he was determined to steal it back. The roots of the idea of marrying a spiritual message with rock’n'roll music began there and then in his childhood even though it would be more than a decade before he would have the opportunity to begin fulfilling that vision.

I’d be lying if I said I knew all of his music, but growing up in a very legalistic church (where even drums were considered evil) kinda automatically makes Larry Norman your hero, as far a music goes.

…or the fact that here we are, almost 20 years have gone by since my “excommunication“, and there are still people being put through this hell.

And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Not just the neighbor that lives up to your expectations. I think sometimes we forget that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Phil mentioned a topic that’s been discussed on Christopher Hopper’s site before. The “Christian” label. When he was asked “So in your mind, is there such a thing as a Christian business?” he replied…

“Business with Christian ownership, Christian values, Christian goals . . . I think a Christian business needs further definition. We had the same discussion about Christian movies. Is it a movie made by Christians? For Christians? Or a movie that has accepted Jesus as its Savior and is going to heaven when it dies?”

I think I’m going to get a copy of his book. Sounds like a good read.

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around.We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels.

My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, “This is the Receiving Section Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.”

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.

The angel then said to me, “This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them.”

I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. “This is the Acknowledgment Section,” my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed “How is it that there is no work going on here?” I asked.

“So sad,” the angel sighed. “After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments.”

“How does one acknowledge God’s blessings?” I asked.

“Simple,” the angel answered. Just say, “Thank you, Lord.”

“What blessings should they acknowledge?” I asked.

“If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.”

“And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity.”

Also “If you woke up this morning with more health than illness …you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day.”

“If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation…you are ahead of 700 million people in the world.”

We went early so Trisha could help out at the KJ-52 merchandise table. Everybody was talking about how great Day of Fire, and 33Miles were the night before. I SHOULD’VE GONE!!! I caught the end of Mike Guzzardo, heard a little bit of Infusion (from right here in Beaver Falls, NY) and then listened to “DC Gump” in between chasing the boys around the place.

There was a pretty good crowd of kids there and “five-tweezy” had everybody with their hands in the air… wavin’ em like they just don’t…. *sigh* I can’t stop it now, keep it goin’ now… Anyway, KJ did a bunch of old school stuff to kick it off and get the place movin’. Ha threw in some new tracks from “The Yearbook” and a freestyle jam about 3 random objects picked from the crowd (an empty Tootsie Roll wrapper, a cell phone, and Bill Jepma’s football), the band had the place laughin’ went they went into a rendition of “Jump” by Van Halen, which got them “fired” by KJ, then later they let loose with “Who Let The Dogs Out”, and started some Backstreet Boys before KJ cut ‘em off. Everybody had a blast. Even Gabe was standing on his chair bouncin’ to the beat. Later on after the Pillar concert (which ROCKED… LOUD by the way) KJ hung out and signed anything and everything my kids could get their hands on.

When I first caught wind of Evan Almighty, my first reaction was probably the same as most people.

“What!!?! No Jim Carrey!?!?”

But after seeing the trailer, I was convinced that the movie would be fine without him, my only other concern was that the movie was just being made for the sake of making a sequel. This article confirms that is not the case. Hopefully more people in the arts, be it movies, music, writing, whatever, take the same approach Tom Shadyac does.

In the world of music, artists generally fall into two categories. There are “Christian musicians” who make Christians albums for Christian record labels that are being bought mostly by Christians. And then there are musicians who happen to be Christians. I take it you’re a director who happens to be a Christian, and not a “Christian director.”

Shadyac: Yeah, and I even have a hard time with that label—though you’re not going to meet a bigger Jesus freak. Someone asked me the other day, “What’s the biggest influence on your filmmaking career?” And they started naming filmmakers. I went, “Naw, it’s Jesus actually.”
