Shoulda bought a Zune…

I’ve been missing the Colbert Report lately but I saw this on Engadget… funny stuff.

“I knew I should have gotten a Zune! They can’t kill me… or do anything else.”

Today’s Reading…

DailyLit delivers literature in installments, via RSS. I’m gonna give it a try, since I spend at least an hour a day staring a Google Reader anyway…

The Idea?

We got the idea for DailyLit after the New York Times serialized a few classic works in special supplements a few summers ago. We wound up reading books that we had always meant to simply by virtue of making them part of our daily routine of reading the newspaper. The only thing we do more consistenly than read the paper is read email. Bingo! We put together a first version and began reading “War of the Worlds” and “Pride and Prejudice”. We showed it to friends, added more books and features at their request, and presto, DailyLit was born.

iriver 3.3 inch Spinn media player

I absolutely love my iPhone/iPod… but, I have to say the UI on the iriver’s 3.3-inch Spinn media player with AMOLED display looks pretty sweet. Check out the video here.

Eve bots… coming to an Apple store near you

Apple and Eve
Revealed: The heroine of Pixar’s new release, Wall-E, was born from an iPod.

“…don’t be surprised to see Eve bots working the counters this summer at an Apple Store near you.”

I cannot wait to go see this movie!!!

This doesn’t surprise me…

but it still sucks! I’m sure New York will be one of the first in line!

Lawmakers eying taxation on digital downloads

Interesting Idea…

Plan on waiting for it to load, that will have to be fixed before it launches!

New iPhone ads

Daring Fireball on an article about the new iPhone ads.

I love how they continue to advertise the iPhone simply by showing how it actually works. You almost never see any product, especially in consumer electronics, advertised this way.

Great point! Advertising is easy when your product sells itself! I’ve had my iPhone a whopping 2 weeks and I can’t imagine being without it already!

Cool Little App

I just read about this in a Shaun Inman post regarding Mail.app troubles and had to check it out. I love it!

Mail Unread Menu is a simple menu bar application which can provide you with a quick and easy way to see how many unread email messages are in Apple’s Mail.

Where’s Sarah & John Connor!?!?!

terminator_the_sarah_connor_chronicles_poster__2_.jpg

I’ve been TIVOing “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles“which is set after the events in ‘Terminator 2′ and follows Sarah Connor and her son John, trying to stay under-the-radar from the government as they plot to destroy the computer network Skynet in hopes of preventing Armageddon. I watch them when I get a chance and I’ve yet to watch the season finale, but so far I’ve loved the show. I can’t wait for the new movie to come out, but it all makes this article I just read via Kottke a little freaky…

Henry Markram has built a supercomputer comprised of 2,000 IBM chips that can handle 22.8 trillion operations per second. “Each of its microchips has been programmed to act just like a real neuron in a real brain.”

Blue Brain scientists are confident that, at some point in the next few years, they will be able to start simulating an entire brain. “If we build this brain right, it will do everything,” Markram says. I ask him if that includes selfconsciousness: Is it really possible to put a ghost into a machine? “When I say everything, I mean everything,” he says, and a mischievous smile spreads across his face.

IE 8 and Web Standards

Should be interesting to see how this plays out…

“We’ve decided that IE8 will, by default, interpret web content in the most standards compliant way it can. This decision is a change from what we’ve posted previously.”
