I’ve found myself reading less and less of the articles lately as well. The latest Interactive Annual hasn’t arrived yet at my office, but the fact that 32 of the 33 web sites are flash, and the remaining one site isn’t that great, leaves me frustrated. There was a time not long ago, that I couldn’t wait for this issue (at one point a CD) to arrive. Now it appears that web design inspiration can be better found in sites like CSS Mania, CSS Import, and unmatchedstyle.com.

That’s the idea behind Blackle. According to a group called Heap Media, a computer exerts less energy displaying a black screen than it does a white screen, so a black Google would conserve a significant amount of energy if multiplied by the number of searches conducted on Google each day.

I found the article  and tips for “Better Designing Through Effective Time Wasting” inspiring this morning. It gave me a swift kick in the rear, made me remember I’m not the only one who struggles at times. I’m going to give a few of these tips a try, see how they work for me. Close Dreamweaver for a bit (*gulp*), stop using Lorem Ipsum, install the Rendered Source Chart FireFox extension, and maybe finish some of the projects scattered around my desk.
I especially connected with the lack of sleep issue.

“Learn to know when to quit – you can’t design when you’re too tired. This isn’t sleepbusting. Some guys can work on four hours of sleep and still get a full day of work in, but those guys are not you…”

Lately I find when I work on a project past midnight, I spend more time dozing during the next day, not really gaining anything in the process. And I’ve been doing a lot of dozing lately. Right now, I need to get some more caffeine.

This time I’ve kept a back up copy of my template. I’ve restored most of what was missing and made some changes to the design, but if Blogger ever eats my code again, it won’t be a total loss. It’s still not perfect and it’s not complete, but it is here so enjoy. I also just added the pics from Gabe’s 1st Birthday ( a few months old now but better late than never)

I’ve been burned again.

I should have learned my lesson the first time my template was destroyed by the Blogger gremlins. I should have saved a copy of my template this time just in case something like this were to happen again. I didn’t. Somehow, the entire right hand column containing all my links has disappeared from my template. Gone. Vanished. Is no more. So, until I can find some more time to tinker with the code again and figure out how to add them back in there… the page will be slightly bare.

*sigh*
